In this Grand Jury Confidential interview, New York Festivals discusses early career influences, leadership lessons, the evolution of the radio industry and much more with 2016 NYF Radio Awards Grand Jury member, Juan Pablo Córdoba, Producción Artística, Radio Mitre S.A.
Juan has been responsible for the artistic production of Radio Mitre, Argentina’s number one radio station programming for over 10 years .
New York Festivals: Who or what were your early influences in your career?
Juan Pablo Córdoba: My first influence was my first boss. Her name is Mariela Sardegna. She was my boss for 2 years, and she taught me how to put on the keyboard or paper those ideas which were swirling in my head. Even today, I apply some concepts that she showed me 10 years ago.
New York Festivals: What’s the most important thing you learned from your first job?
New York Festivals: What were some early leadership lessons for you?
Juan Pablo Córdoba: You can’t do something fast, greatly, and without mistreating the employee. I prefer to place the third point above all.
New York Festivals: What qualities are the most important to have?
Juan Pablo Córdoba: Creativity, patience and adaptability. (creativity to adapt; patience when there is no creativity; and adaptability when your boss has no patience)
New York Festivals: Tell us a bit about your evolution in the radio industry?
Juan Pablo Córdoba: I started 11 years ago as a writer.My main task was to write advertising spots. Two years later I was the Creative Writer of Radio Mitre, where I conceptualized and wrote promotions, jingles, and programs / station ID’s. I then became the Artistic Producer of the whole company, without putting aside the task which is the most love: writing.
New York Festivals: What was a defining moment in your career?
Juan Pablo Córdoba: I’m at the perfect time in my career where maturity and enthusiasm are combined.
