New York Festivals® 2012 International Advertising Awards® Streamlines Categories By 43%

New York, NY – December 1, 2011:  New York Festivals International Advertising Awards unveiled a dramatic restructuring of its competitions resulting in a 43% reduction in categories across all competitions. The streamlining process was established for efficiency and reflects the current work being produced in the industry.  It was initiated by comments and discussions with the 2011 New York Festivals Executive Jury, an elite group of Worldwide Chief Creative Officers from some of the world’s top agencies.

“NYF streamlined its categories based on conversations with the Executive Jury; we used their expertise as our guide, combining similar categories, while maintaining consistency and specificity,” said Michael O’Rourke, President International Awards Group.

“In most award shows today, there is too much duplication. The same piece is winning in five categories. And there are too many categories diluting the quality of the work. The goal of consolidating was to eliminate redundancy and to improve the quality of the show…” commented Rob Feakins, President/CCO Publicis NY, and 2011 NYFA Executive Jury.

In addition to category reductions, New York Festivals significantly enhanced the submission process, improving the user experience and allowing entrants to simultaneously enter a single piece in multiple categories.

I had an incredible experience as a member of the 1st Executive Jury at the 2011 New York Festivals Awards Show.  I appreciate the organization and the serious approach of the Festival; I’m very proud to know that they listened to the Executive Jury and used our input to improve the next year’s festival.  These recent changes confirm the respect they have for the competition’s entries and also for the advertising industry around the world.  It’s an example to be followed,” said Hugo Rodrigues, COO and CCO Publicis Brazil, and 2011 NYFA Executive Jury.

In 2011, New York Festivals assembled the first Executive Jury, dubbed the Dream Team.  Moderated by Donald Gunn, founder of the The Gunn Report, the jury was comprised of Worldwide Chief Creative officers from the world’s top agencies.  Never before had so many high level creative officers gathered in one room to judge the final rounds of an advertising show.  The 2012 Executive Jury and Grand Jury will be announced soon.

The 2-day New York Show, beginning May 2nd, features creative panel discussions, keynote speakers, networking events, the 2012 Executive Jury Press Conference, exhibits, and the May 3rd International Advertising Awards ceremony.  All New York Show events and the 2012 awards gala will take place at the New York Public Library’s Beaux-Arts landmark building, located at 455 Fifth Avenue at 40th Street in New York City.
