New York Festivals Announces 2010 World's Best TV Programs & Films Call For Entry; NYF Merges Television Programming & Promotion Awards with Film & Video Competition
New York, NY - September 1, 2009: New York Festivals, now in its 52nd year, announced the Call For Entries for the 2010 World's Best TV Programs & Films. This Call For Entry announcement also marks the merging of two of NYF's competitions: New York Festival’s Television Programming & Promotion Awards with the International Film & Video Awards. This newly formed competition will honor "The World’s Best Work" in both Television Programming & Promotion and Film & Video.
"As different forms of media are increasingly overlapping, the New York Festivals has decided to merge both the Television Programming and Film & Video Awards" said NYF President, Michael O'Rourke.
The New York Festivals World's Best TV Programs & Films will maintain the previous award categories from the original competitions and has added new categories dedicated to work that are showcased online. Television categories include: news, documentary, information and entertainment programming, music video, infomercial, promotion, spots, openings and IDs. The new competition will continue to salute Film & Video categories, such as feature length, short and documentary films, informational, educational, corporate and industrial film productions; home video and student productions. Last year’s Television Programming & Promotion Awards and International Film & Video Awards received entries from 30 countries. The Grand Trophy winners in the 2009 Television competition were: Sydney's Southern Star International, winning for "Meerkat Manor: The Next Generation"; Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s award winning documentary "Jihad Sheila's"; Discovery Network of Miami, Florida for the promotional program "Planet Earth: The Filmmaker's Story"; and CNN of Atlanta, Georgia for the documentary “Planet in Peril”. In addition, ESPN was awarded the coveted title of TV Programmer of the Year with a staggering 45 winning entries.
Grand Trophy winners in 2009's Film & Video Awards went to the following companies: Germany’s klink, liedig werbeagentur gmbh for "We Love Cinema" for Germany's Tele 5; Mexico's Televisa SA de CV was awarded the Grand Trophy for "Imaginates Serrat, Cortazar"; Wilder of London won for their short film "Ripple"; and Sweden's Stark Film & Event won for the film "Night at the Elyseum". The Edge Picture Group, England was awarded the prestigious title of Production Company of the Year for the second year in a row.
All entries in the 2010 competition will be screened by NYF judging panels comprised of producers, directors, writers and other creative media professionals from around the globe. Entries that are less than ten minutes in length will be judged online, while entries longer than ten minutes will be judged onsite by an international panel of industry professionals.
All winning entries of the 2010 World's Best TV Programs & Films will be featured in the showcase section of New York Festivals website and promoted by our network of international representatives in 62 countries around the world.
