Roman Strickler

CEO
Frische Brise Film
GERMANY

At the early age of six he was already shooting a first experimental movie with his grandpa’s 8mm camera – from these days on, he knew he was destined to become a director...
Right probably 43,62 percent of all directors’ CVs start with lines like these.

But nope, not for this guy here! In fact it took Roman quite a while to figure out he was all about directing. After having been a producer and reporter with two major German television networks for over six years - Roman decided to move into another direction: turning away from producing news and documentaries he embraced the challenge of directing corporate and commercial films. The art of creating beautiful pictures had become just too seductive. So Roman teamed up with his friend DoP Frank Roos to co-found FRISCHE BRISE FILM – a young and vibrant production company operating out of Cologne, Germany.

Today he puts his 20 years of experience on the job into his work for international brands and advertising agencies. Roman's works have collected five Gold World Medals at NY Festivals over the last few years as well as several other international awards.

Berger began his producing career in Boulder, Colo., where he founded Fat Third Entertainment, a production company that created instructional videos for local businesses. After graduating from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2002, Berger moved to L.A., where he said “yes” to every opportunity, including research, logging footage and driving a forklift. His experience, humility and eagerness led to a position at Red Skies (now Asylum) Entertainment, led by the former head of the Disney Channel and the Fox Sports Regional Networks. There, Berger helped produce the Emmy-nominated series “Beyond the Glory,” and produced, developed and led the field production teams for the “Sports List” pilot, which led to the eventual production of 65 episodes for Fox Sports Net. After a short break from Asylum, Berger later returned as a producer for the series “Fearless” for the Outdoor Life Network, which received a nomination for “Best Documentary” from the Sports Emmy Awards. These experiences, and work as a freelance producer for Fox News, solidified Berger’s confidence and interest in starting a venture of his own. He founded J2D Productions in 2005 and its subsidiary, Kids At Play, in 2008 with the interest and understanding that companies need production of high-quality digital content. With a core team of seven peers, editors for individual projects and additional advisors, Berger thinks that Kids At Play has found a good niche. Steady, appropriate growth will allow the company to create killer content the only thing that matters.

Berger co-directed the award-winning short film “Good Karma $1,” which received more than eight Audience and Best Film Awards after being accepted into more than 20 film festivals, including Slamdance, SF Shorts, DC Shorts, Austin Film Festival and Edmonton International Film Festival. His content averages more than 150 million impressions or views a year and has earned the respect of such clients as Electus, PYE, AMC TV, Yahoo!, My Damn Channel, Current TV and Purina. Current TV’s “50 Documentaries to See Before You Die,” produced by Berger, was one of its most-watched series. Berger also gained accolades for a short film he produced called “Phobic,” shot on a small budget in his hometown of Chicago on 35 mm film. After it was screened at several film festivals, “Phobic” received a seven-year distribution contract from Echelon Entertainment.

Sofia de Fay

Film Director
Independent
UAE

For over 2 decades now Sofia has directed films for television stations, multi-nationals, advertising agencies, governments, charities, the web, channels and presidents, sheikhas, kings and princes. She has filmed in UK, Jordan, Qatar, Lebanon, UAE, Namibia, Gabon, Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Italy, Germany, France, Thailand, Nepal, Indonesia, India, Cambodia, Somalia, Bosnia and United States of America. She directs short fiction films, corporate films, branded content films, TV series, dramatic documentaries, feature film documentaries, heart-wrenching fund-raising films and small commercials. Born to a Hungarian father and British mother, Sofia grew up in UK and immigrated to South Africa when she was 6 years old. After studying English, Psychology, Politics and Law, Sofia began her career as a junior copywriter in an advertising agency. She soon found it more inspiring to gather stories in the burning township streets of apartheid South Africa. She penned her first article “Bara Blues” from a blood splashed ER unit and a local magazine snapped it up. Following this fortuitous break she carved out a niche for herself developing her skill as a scriptwriter and soon had written 500 documentaries that were distributed to 18 territories worldwide. In the beginning she specialized in wildlife and anthropological scripts. She quickly secured her footing with international channels such as National Geographic, Animal Planet and Discovery Channel. The following years of diverse and challenging writing assignments, ranging from feature films to a soap opera to sitcoms to reality shows, to commercials taught her the language of film and from this she started to shape her aesthetics and sensibility as a director.

I always had an interest in interior designing and was studying in the hopes of being an architect but I stumbled into the media industry by accident. From covering duties for a woman on maternity leave as a typist to being a Senior Creative Director, you can say I did the right things at the right time.

Throughout these 23 years in the media business, I have gone through numerous roles. I started a cable channel (at JETTV), produced many vignettes for the Sales department (at CNBC Asia), managed a department (On-Air promotions at MediaCorp TV Singapore Pte Ltd) and recently produced an online travel series.

In my career, I am blessed to be surrounded by good and creative people, working with them, I have garnered international and Asian awards, winning 1 Gold at Promax Asia, 3 Silvers and 1 bronze at Promax International and most recently, I was also awarded the World Gold at the New York Festival 2016.

You can say I’ve done everything, Well, not all. I have many regrets in my life but work is not one of them. It has enabled me to excel in the field that I love and made many friends along the way.
